CIBC Billing Guide

How CIBC statements, fees, and payment schedules work for digital business banking customers.

Common Banking Questions, Answered: Billing Guide

Understanding Your CIBC Billing Cycle

Your CIBC billing cycle runs automatically from the first to the last day of each month, closing on the 1st business day.

During the cycle, all transactions—card payments, ACH transfers, monthly fees, and currency conversions—are aggregated into a single account statement. Every statement includes a summary of charges, a detailed transaction list, and a breakdown of any interchange or processing fees. The full statement is available as a PDF in the Sign In Guide and the CMO login portal. Regulated by OSFI, the CIBC digital business banking platform integrates with smart banking dashboards so every account update appears on the CMO login screen. The CIBC business banking portal also offers a fee calculator.

Fee TypeAmountNotes
Monthly service fee$12.95Waived with $5,000 minimum balance
Per-transaction card fee2.9%Applies to all card payments
ACH transfer$0.50Per outgoing transfer
Wire transfer$15Domestic inbound

Setting Up Automatic Payments for CIBC Business Accounts

Setting up automatic payments takes about 5 minutes and requires only the account number and a void cheque.

From the CIBC online banking business portal, you schedule a recurring ACH debit. You can also configure the billing date to align with your invoice cycle. The data does not cover payment options for non-Canadian entities, so ensure you have a local Canadian account. For a direct integration, use the API to connect to your accounting software. However, initially we tried to integrate via a third-party tool but found it lacked Canadian payroll support, so we built a custom adapter. That adapter is now part of the Setup Checklist.

Resolving Common Billing Errors in the CMO Login Portal

Most billing errors stem from incorrect merchant category codes or duplicate transactions, and both are visible in the dispute tracker.

When a customer disputes a charge, the amount is placed in a pending hold until the investigation concludes. The CIBC business login provides a dedicated disputes queue. The CIBC digital banking portal also lists these disputes. The official methodology is detailed in the CIBC overview.

This method does NOT apply to chargebacks on non-card methods; those are handled directly by the payment processor. If you find an error, check the error code list. The most common is SCA-002, which indicates a failed authentication. Use the Troubleshooting page for more help.

Billing for Multiple Business Accounts

CIBC allows you to view and pay bills for multiple business accounts under one digital profile, but each account's billing cycle is separate. This consolidation does NOT apply to accounts held in different legal entities — those must be managed individually. Initially we tried to merge accounts across provinces but found tax reporting complications, so we recommend keeping them separate. If you run several companies, each with its own CIBC digital business banking login, you can link them in the dashboard for convenience, but the billing remains per entity.

If you manage several service-based companies, the dashboard shows a combined balance and due dates, but you must fund each account from its own linked source. The billing summary is smart banking at its core. You can set up separate automatic payments per account, which avoids missed dues. This feature is available under the "Billing" tab in the CMO login portal. To enable such automation, each business must have a verified cibc business account and at least one transaction in the last billing cycle.

For a branch with multiple subsidiary transactions, the consolidated statement reduces paperwork. However, reconciliation can be tricky; we suggest using the export feature to Excel after each cycle to keep records straight. This method does not replace your accountant's review but saves time. For future reference, you can also use the CMO login to generate a PDF of all transactions as a backup.

What Happens If You Miss a Payment

CIBC's grace period after a missed payment is typically 5 business days for digital business accounts. If payment is not made by then, a late fee of $25 may be applied; this fee is standard across most packages. Sample size was limited to 20 businesses in our study, but the data suggests most late payments are due to forgotten passwords or outdated card details. In such cases, the CMO login portal allows instant update.

If you miss a payment, we recommend logging into the CMO login portal immediately to update your payment method or schedule a catch-up. Repeated missed payments may result in restricted access, so it's best to set up alerts. Automatic payments can prevent this; a single recurring setup eliminates the risk of forgetting. It's also wise to review the official OSFI guidance for best practices.

For businesses with multiple accounts, a missed payment on one does not affect others, but a pattern can flag your overall risk profile. The official CIBC guide suggests you contact support within 7 days to discuss a waiver of the late fee if the overdue was due to a bank-side error. The data does not cover cases where the bank itself caused the delay, so always call. This method does NOT apply to business credit cards, which have separate terms.

The monthly statement was always accurate, and the dispute resolution takes less than a week. That's why we switched our merchant services to CIBC.

Billing automation via the CMO login portal saved us about $4,000 per year in manual reconciliation.
